What is the Super Readers Project?
The Super Readers Project is a school-wide effort to motivate, encourage, and support students to read more at home!

The goal is to:
  • Increase the amount of time students spend reading.
  • Build a community of readers and foster a love of reading!
  • Build the capacity of families to support reading at home.
  • Support teachers with tools and resources.
  • And ultimately… Increase literacy outcomes for students!
What are the Super Readers Project Components?
  • Staff Professional Development for Teachers to establish grade-level reading at home expectations and learn strategies for engaging families in reading.
  • Super Readers Team Training and Support for school staff, family leaders, and students to plan activities that build a community of readers and foster a love of reading. The team will receive ongoing coaching and support.
  • Family Literacy Events and Practices to build the capacity of families to support, monitor, and encourage their child’s reading progress
  • Monthly Reading Challenges to motivate, incentivize, and encourage reading at home.
  • Tracking Reading at Home to determine the impact of the Super Readers Project. Schools collect achievement, participation and perception data and share outcomes with the entire school community.
  • Tools and Resources needed to implement the Super Readers Project. High Expectations provides an Implementation Guide, flyers, tracking tools, templates for engaging families, and a Comprehension Box for every student!
Why is this important?
  • ALL families have superpower abilities to support their child’s reading progress!
  • Students that read at home, do better in school.
  • Teachers do not need more work. They need support, tools, and resources to make family partnerships easier and more effective.
COMPREHENSION BOX
The Comprehension Box is a game-like tool that gives elementary school students the opportunity to practice essential reading skills in an engaging and interactive way. The Box incorporates three key components of reading...being able to read with understanding and talk and write about what was read. It also makes it easy for families to encourage, support and monitor their child’s reading, even if they don’t read the book.
